Night photography is not easy as results cannot always be predicted. I like the idea here and it has been well executed and timed. The exposure is very good with a wide range of detail. Like many night shots it was taken in full darkness which has rendered the sky black. Shooting a little earlier often guarantees an attractive deep blue sky but having said that this is very good. |

The exposure is good here which has given a full range of tones. The colouring is interesting with the cool blues contrasting the warm tones reflected in the clouds. I can understand having the blue reflected in the water but I might have cropped the foreground down a tad and concentrated more on the wheel. Certainly a different rendition of this landmark. |

There is no doubt that there is some great detail in the insect here. It is an interesting viewpoint as we usually see these directly from above. The bright petals still retain some detail so I am happy there but I would have cropped off the dark object in the background which is very distracting. This is a well captured shot to get such depth of field. |

There is much to admire here. The 'pose' of the bird is excellent with the outstretched wing and the image being cropped to fit the shape of the wing. The bird is nicely placed on the third with space in front of it thereby emphasising a sense of movement. In an ideal world there would be a small catchlight in the eye but that is not really needed here, this is a great shot. |

This is a highly competent record shot showing both sides of this coin. It is obviously not a mint example but is an 'honest' coin that has been used and this is all exposed in this image. I like the subtle edge lighting that highlights the surface details. |

The use of selective focussing and wide aperture has really accentuated the head of this flower and has conversely diffused the background nicely. The contrast in the centre of the flower is very contrasty compared to the rest of the plant but that is a minor point for this image. |

There is certainly an art to shooting glass and this is a good example. Tricks such as having dark card just out of shot to reflect off the edges and similar techniques can all accentuate the surface details. For this image I think I would have lowered the exposure in the centre to darken it a bit but other than that this is good. |

At first glance this looks like a general close up of a lawn but a second look reveals a carefully constructed composition with the buttercup an important addition. This contrasts perfectly with the daisies around it. This is a quiet image with a story in the title. |

The elements in this image have come together perfectly and the timing when the shutter was tripped is impeccable. Everything here just works well from the couple in the punt through to the red shirts and the interaction between the punters. Very good. |

This is a perfect example of how powerful the mono image can be and also proves the point that you should always carry a camera for moments such as this. The detail in the sky area is tremendous and the has also been carefully handled to retain details in the dark areas of foliage too. |

There is no doubting the colour combination here which is very striking. The image basically only has three colours and it appears that the saturation has been turned up to accentuate them. The viewpoint is interesting and the sharpness and detail is high. I think with those simple, saturated colours this could be a good image for the wall. |

A very tranquil image which has interesting modern technology in the background. The arrangement of the barges is very good and it's good to see them in sail. The image does suffer with the usual opposite bank issue which cuts a dark line through the image. Unless you can secure a high vantage point or even a very low one this can be difficult to avoid. Having said that it is not a great issue here in this well caught image. |

I really enjoy this image a great deal. The composition, sharpness, point of focus and the all important catchlight in the eye are all here. Yes, there is out of focus foliage intruding on the left but that is disguised by the spot on focussing concentrating on the birds eye, Very good. |
